Coconut “Cheese” Sauce

Updated: Aug 17, 2020

This is a delicious plant-based imitation of cheese sauce. The beauty of this recipe is its versatility and flexibility. You can add more or less coconut milk to change the thickness depending on what you are using it on, whether it be for a chip dip, popcorn, or simply just a drizzle on top of a dish of your choice!

Coconut “Cheese” Sauce

Dairy-free, gluten-free, oil-free

Yield: approx. ½ cup sauce

Prep Time: 1 min

Cook Time: 2 min

Total Time: 3 min

Ingredients:

  • ⅔ cup canned coconut milk

  • 3 tablespoons nutritional yeast

  • 2 tablespoons tapioca starch

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ⅛ teaspoon ground paprika

  • ¼ teaspoon ground turmeric

Directions:

  1. Add all the ingredients in a saucepan and whisk to combine. Once everything is evenly combined, turn the heat on low and bring the sauce to a boil while stirring.

  2. Let the mixture simmer for a minute until the sauce is creamy and stretchy. Then, remove from heat.

  3. If the sauce is too thick, just add a little extra coconut milk or water.
